On June 9, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to kick off The First Annual Long Island FunFest at Suffolk County Community College’s Grant Campus in Brentwood. Bob Destefano, Co-Owner, Dreamland Amusements and Creator, Long Island FunFest, joined Angie Carpenter, Supervisor, Town of Islip, and Ron Cohen, Vice President, NephCure Kidney International, in the ceremony, along with members of Ward Hall’s World of Wonders Oddity Show.

The First Annual Long Island FunFest offers Long Islanders an exciting eleven-day festival experience that runs until June 19. FunFest, which is hosted by Dreamland Amusements, features Fireworks by Grucci, World of Wonders Oddity Show, the Victoria Thrill Show Circus and much more family fun.

Attractions at the event include live bands, karaoke, carnival rides and the Commerford Petting Zoo, the largest of its kind in the country. There will also be 28 carnival rides, including some of the most popular thrillers: Dream Wheel; Delusion — the only ride of its kind east of the Mississippi River; Dream Catcher and Zipper. For the faint of heart, they can visit the Firehouse, Orange Whip and Merry-Go-Round. In addition to an array of games and craft vendors, FunFest will also be home to a wide variety of traditional fair food from local concessionaires, including grilled sausage and peppers, corn dogs, zeppoles, funnel cake, cotton candy, popcorn and other foods.

In addition to providing entertainment to members of the local communities, Long Island FunFest will donate a portion of its proceeds to NephCure Kidney International. NephCure is committed exclusively to supporting research on the potentially debilitating kidney disease Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and Nephrotic Syndrome, improving treatment and finding a cure.

The carnival will be open from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays (Mon to Fri) and from noon to 11p.m. on weekends (Sat and Sun). General admission is $2 per person Monday through Thursday and $5 per person Friday through Sunday. Wristbands are available for $25 Monday to Thursday and $30 Friday to Sunday.
