Paint the Town … And Some Pottery
Patchogue, NY – With paint and sip classes now a popular date night or girl’s night out activity, it’s no wonder that Paint the Town Studio, located right in the heart of Patchogue Village, will soon expand its classes to include make your own pottery workshops. Starting in October, guests will take to the pottery wheel, creating works of art, from scratch, at one of two class options – “Sip ‘n Spin” or “Pottery Wheel Throwing.”
Ideal for those looking for a more laid-back experience, “Sip ‘n Spin” is an instructor-based class that teaches guests the basics of pottery making. The class starts off with a hand-built “warm up” project, so visitors can get a feel for the clay. Following an instructor demonstration on turning clay into a piece of art, guests get a spin of the wheel to create a piece of their own. Guests can pick up their pieces after the clay has been painted, glazed and kiln-fired. As “Sip ‘n Spin” is targeted to more novice artists, studio employees are available throughout the class to help students on the wheel.
“This class is a great activity for couples looking for a fun, new date night activity,” explains Alison Hinkaty, Owner of Paint the Town. “Grab a drink from our bar, or bring your own bottle, sit down and get creative. It’s a great activity that won’t take up your entire night or break the bank.”
Not to be forgotten, the company’s “Intro to Pottery Wheel Throwing Series” expands upon the basic techniques of wheel throwing techniques. This six-week training session is great for novice pottery makers all the way to advanced artisans. The program’s small group classes, which meet on select Wednesdays beginning October 11, allow for individual guidance and ample time with the instructor to address any questions.
Throughout these classes, guests work on advance throwing projects and glazing and surface techniques. Students will create sake cups, a decanter and a platter, among other hand-built projects. Classes will meet October 11 and 24 and November 1, 7, 14, 12 and 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. The six-week session costs $210, which includes all necessary materials.
