Don’t Pass Over Ben’s Catered Holiday Dinner

The Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers’ motto has long been that holidays should be a time to kick-back and relax with family, rather than spending long hours cooking and cleaning. Celebrate freedom, and the story of the exodus from Egypt, with the company’s famous Catered Holiday Dinner for 10, featuring mouthwatering gefilte fish, delicious matzo ball soup, fresh-cut coleslaw and more.

According to Jewish tradition, it is forbidden to eat leavened food products, such as bread, because, in their rush to escape from Egypt, the Jews were unable to wait for bread to rise. Instead, they ate matzo, a non-leavening cracker-like food, which has become synonymous with Jewish culture, and its holidays.

In recognition of this custom, Ben’s Complete Holiday Dinner for 10 features 12 matzo balls, along with 10 pieces of gefilte fish, one-quart of chopped liver, four quarts of chicken soup, and macaroons for dessert. The package, which costs $349.90, also includes a choice of three entrées — five roast chickens, a whole roast turkey or four pounds of sliced brisket —and two side dishes, such as broccoli almandine, sweet potato pudding and much more.

Ben’s Friends Preferred Patrons who purchase this complete Holiday Dinner by Sunday, March 25, 2018 will also receive four “Buy-One-Get-One-Free” on-app coupons; a total savings of over $100.

All seven locations are also offering “Holiday Dinner Extra Goodies,” which can be pre-ordered to ensure that every table is full. For those looking to bring a dish – whether it’s an appetizer, dessert, or another signature dish, Ben’s takeout counter has everything you need to complement a  holiday dinner.

In observance of the holiday, all Ben’s Kosher Deli locations will close at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 30, and will re-open Sunday, April 8 for normal business hours.

Ben’s Store-Cured Corned Beef Has its Patrons Feeling Lucky this St. Patrick’s Day

You don’t need to be Irish to feel lucky this St. Patrick’s Day! From March 1 until St. Patrick’s Day, on Saturday, March 17, all seven of Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers locations, will be reveling in the company’s annual March corned beef celebration. With special combos including sandwiches and traditional corned beef, cabbage and potato platters, it’s really Ben’s proprietary corned beef curing process that truly sets the company apart from other restaurants and delis.

“Unlike many other restaurants, we use only fresh, Kosher USDA choice briskets,” Ben’s founder/owner Ronnie Dragoon states. “We pickle the briskets in each store using an exclusive Ben’s pickling blend and an old-fashioned two-week curing process.” Once curing is complete, Ben’s highly skilled chefs cook the corned beef daily as needed, ensuring a fresh and delicious experience for Ben’s guests.

Initially chosen as a more affordable substitute for bacon, corned beef and cabbage became a tradition among Irish-American immigrants. Its connection to St. Patrick’s Day is the result of Irish-Americans having commonly served the meal during various family and holiday celebrations. Interestingly, what Americans today know as traditional corned beef actually stems from Jewish culture, as Irish immigrants once primarily purchased their meat from Kosher butchers.

It is that traditional eastern European style that Ben’s aims to emulate in its cooking process. “Yes, we cure our own corned beef,” Dragoon adds, “but, don’t forget, our chicken soup cures everything else!”

While Ben’s Corned Beef Celebration Specials only run from March 1 through St. Patrick’s Day, its tasty store-cured, freshly-prepared corned beef is available all year long. In addition to sandwiches and platters, guests can enjoy fresh corned beef in salads, omelets or sliced by the pound to take home.

Lastly, Ben’s takeout counter is always open for football lovers looking for great sandwiches, wraps, hot entrées, salads, homemade soups and a host of other goodies. Phone and online orders are welcomed.

“We want our customers to be able to enjoy playoff season, especially during the Big Game, and not have to worry about prepping or cooking,” says Ronnie Dragoon, Founder/Owner of Ben’s Kosher Deli. “In order to make this happen, we have created a variety of special takeout and catering menus to accommodate every customer. Whether they want to dine-in, take out, or throw a big party, every Ben’s location will make each customer’s post season stress-free and enjoyable. But, it’s up to the athletes to make the same promise for the actual games.”

Ben’s Kosher Deli and The Workman’s Circle Collaborate for a Night Filled with Jewish History, New York Culture and Delicious Food

New York City is known for many things; an epic skyline, Times Square, “dirty water dogs,” Broadway musicals, the Yankees, and countless other iconic people, places and things. But, what many do not know is that New York City is also home to the first-ever Jewish American deli, which opened in 1888. To celebrate Jewish history and culture, Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers is joining The Workmen’s Circle’s “Taste of Jewish Culture” series to host a “Talk and Taste the History” event on Thursday, January 11 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This event will take place at Ben’s of Manhattan, located at 209 West 38th Street.

For $35 a person, guests will be treated to a sampling of traditional Jewish cuisine from Eastern Europe, including chicken in a pot, knishes, stuffed cabbage and brisket. They will also hear from Ben’s area supervisor, Hal Simon, about the background and origins of these meals and the history of Jewish delis in New York.

“I think it’s great that The Workmen’s Circle is running this series, and I am very happy that Ben’s can be one of the locations,” says Mr. Simon. “Jewish delis are such an integral part of the city’s history and I look forward to teaching New Yorkers about the vast culture behind our foods.”

Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen: Your Hanukkah Headquarters

For many families, busy schedules filled with company parties, school concerts and festive parades can often get in the way of celebrating with loved ones during the holiday season. Holidays are meant to be spent with loved ones but finding a time that works for everyone isn’t easy; Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers is helping to keep the tradition alive with simple and delicious Hanukkah catering options that eliminate the time and hassle of food preparation and cleanup.

Throughout December, Ben’s is once again offering its Catered Hanukkah Dinner for Six. This classic Ben’s catering package is ideal for patrons who are seeking to preserve the tradition of a Hanukkah gathering, but do not have the time to purchase raw ingredients and prepare a meal. Everyone knows the heart of the meal starts with the meat, so Ben’s Catered Hanukkah Dinner ($129.99) includes three Whole Chickens with stuffing, or 2.5 pounds of Brisket (for an additional $10). Also included are two quarts of Ben’s famous Chicken Noodle soup, one-pound of rye bread, two-dozen mini latkes with applesauce and a small relish tray, as well as a choice between one-quart of Ben’s famous coleslaw, health salad or cucumber salad.

In addition to the Catered Dinner for Six, Ben’s is also throwing its annual “Lotsa Latkes” celebration, which allows people, Jewish or not, to connect to the story of Hanukkah. Hanukkah celebrates the miracle of the oil that burned for eight days when the Maccabees rededicated the holy Temple in Jerusalem after their victory over the Syrian-Greeks. Fried foods like potato pancakes are traditional Hanukkah treats because they are cooked in oil and remind us of the miracle of the holiday.

As part of Ben’s “Lotsa Latkes” celebration, any customer who purchases three-dozen latkes will receive one-dozen free, as well as 25 percent off each additional dozen. This discount offer is only available from December 8 to 24. To top it off, from December 12 to 20, three mouth-watering flavors —sweet potato, zucchini and spinach – will be regularly available. Ben’s latkes are great for school-functions, family gatherings, office luncheons and more. Flavored options will be only available in-stores starting December 12, but can be made upon request with advance orders.

Lastly, Ben’s takeout counter is also ideal for picking up last-minute holiday items, with a variety of options for everything from the main course to soups, sides, salads or desserts.

Ben’s of Bayside Thriving After Renovation

Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterer’s completely renovated its Bayside, Queens location this past Spring. From new carpets to a refurbished kitchen and bathrooms, all the way up to painting the ceiling, Ben’s of Bayside left nothing untouched. But, the changes weren’t just physical alterations, the store also got a new leader.  Longtime Ben’s employee, David Czegledi, transferred from his post as General Manager of the Manhattan location to oversee the day-to-day operations in Bayside.

“I moved to Bayside for a few reasons,” Mr. Czegledi states. “Growing up in an orthodox environment, going to Yeshiva, I can relate to the customers here. I will be able to give guests the heimesha feeling they are looking for and expect. We also hope to develop our tour group program, which is thriving in Manhattan. Given Bayside’s proximity to many area attractions, we want to encourage senior and student groups to utilize the Bayside location as a lunch or dinner stop on their tours.”

Ben’s of Bayside, with the help of NYC & Company and the Queen’s Chamber of Commerce, is trying to increase the desire of tour groups to spend time in Queens County, not just Manhattan.

“With Queens’ diverse culture, large restaurant scene and roster of craft breweries, we have a lot to offer these tour groups,” adds Mr. Czegledi. “So, we are hoping more people will come out and enjoy a nice Kosher Pastrami sandwich while they see Queens.”.

Ben’s of Bayside also offers a private party room for quests to hold events such as birthdays, networking events, luncheons, award ceremonies, bar/bat mitzvahs, and more. The party room can accommodate up to 80 people, or guests can purchase a full buyout of the restaurant for larger events. Prices for catered lunch start at $18.99 per person and catered complete dinners start at $23.99 per person.

“Our parties are very easy to plan, and we take care of everything to make sure it’s as easy as possible for our guests,” Mr. Czegledi continues. “We serve beer and wine, and we offer audio/visual aids, such as speakers, podium, microphone, easel – whatever is needed for a successful meeting or party.”

“Now that all the renovations are complete, we are very excited to see what David can do with Bayside,” states Ronnie Dragoon, Owner and Founder of Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant and Caterers. “His customer service and marketing skills make him perfect to watch over this location, and I know that he will take Ben’s of Bayside to the next level.”
