Ben’s of Scarsdale Launches Free Lunch Delivery Service for Businesses in the Westchester Area

More and More Businesses Encouraging Lunch Delivery to Enhance Productivity

As a way to introduce itself to the Westchester business community, Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers in Scarsdale has announced that it is offering free lunch delivery service to area businesses and their employees in a wide area around their new store.

For those who have enough time for lunch (but not enough time to pick it up), Ben’s can offer to drop it off at the customer’s place of business, saving workers the time and hassle of leaving the workplace or waiting in line to pick up their order.

Many companies are ordering lunch for its employees as a way to get more out of them, while employees see food as a way to be rewarded. A survey from a leading food ordering company revealed that 60% of respondents said that having food in the office would make them feel more “valued and appreciated” and another 60% said that, if their company provided food, it would encourage them to eat with their colleagues, meaning they would have the opportunity to discuss business with each other. The survey also revealed that delicatessen foods were a popular option, with those in the finance sector ordering the most deli.

“Whether companies provide lunch or whether employees order on their own, lunch delivery helps employees become more productive,” says Scott Singer, President/CSO, Ben’s Restaurant Group. “During a lunch break, co-workers and management can bounce ideas off each other in a more informal setting. It also provides the opportunity for co-workers to get to know one another personally. As a result, everyone can become more effective.”

Ben’s offers its traditional Kosher fare — such as soups and sandwiches — as well as an expanded menu that caters to the health-conscious crowd, like salads, paninis and wraps — an alternative to other forms of take-out food, which may be unhealthful and derivative. The National Restaurant Association’s (NRA) 2015 Restaurant Industry Forecast shows that 67% of customers are looking for more healthful options from restaurants, a figure that is higher than it was two years ago.

Indicators show that, with more people ordering in for lunch, it has positively impacted the restaurant industry. A recent survey by the NRA showed that 75% of a restaurant’s sales take place outside the restaurant, including delivery. Further, the organization’s report showed that more than half of consumers surveyed are purchasing delivery more often. Ben’s free delivery service is unique, with trucks leaving at scheduled departure times and running routes through various communities, some quite far from the Scarsdale store. Actual delivery times will vary based upon the number of orders on the truck and the route taken by the driver. Departures are scheduled as follows: to Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe at 11 a.m.; to Ardsley, Greenburgh, Greenville, Hartsdale, New Rochelle, Scarsdale and White Plains at 11 a.m. and again at 12:30 p.m.; to Dobbs Ferry, Elmsford, Hastings, Irvington and Tarrytown at 11:15 a.m. and again at 12:30 p.m.; and to Harrison, Portchester and Rye at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

While delivery times are not guaranteed on the free lunchtime delivery trucks, Ben’s does offer delivery at specific times when required for meetings or to keep on schedule. These orders may be sent out on different trucks and a delivery fee may apply.

Those who wish to order can view the Scarsdale takeout menu at www.bensdeli.net. Under the Promotions tab, they can go to Free Delivery Services, then on the page where it reads “View our Takeout Menus,” and click on the Scarsdale link.

Minimum order for lunch is $25. Free delivery service is not available in severe weather or on certain days and holidays.

Celebrate National Pickle Day at Ben’s on November 14!

In celebration of National Pickle Day, Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers is offering a free new or sour pickle to all customers who visit Ben’s locations in New York and Florida on November 14.

Although its origins to National Pickle Day cannot be traced, the first annual Pickle Day was celebrated in New York City in 2001. The origin of the pickle itself can be traced back to 2030 B.C. At that time, cucumbers were imported from India to the Tigris Valley, where they were first preserved and then eaten as pickles. The name “pickle” comes from the Dutch word pekel, meaning “brine.”

Many historical figures saw pickles as having many benefits. Cleopatra subsisted on a full diet of pickles which she believed attributed to her good looks. Julius Caesar and Napoleon Bonaparte fed pickles to their troops, believing this food would give their soldiers the strength they needed to go into battle.

As part of its longstanding tradition, Ben’s has given out pickles to its dining room patrons free of charge along with their entrées and sandwiches. “Not having a pickle would be like a marriage without a significant other,” said Ronnie Dragoon, Founder-Owner of Ben’s. “Pickles go hand in hand with Kosher deli sandwiches.”

Ben’s pickles have the best ingredients in their pickling and fermenting process. “Our pickles are graded so the sizing is consistent,” Mr. Dragoon said. “The sour pickles are true sours, which means they have been pickling and fermenting for many months, unlike the quick cure or pasteurized pickles, which lack the true and authentic taste of pickles from the Old Country.”

Pickles are also considered to be a healthy snack; they are low in calories and rich in Vitamin K. “We have had guests come to the deli counter and place an order just for pickles, especially pregnant women,” Mr. Dragoon said. “However, some people just love to snack on a pickle; they have no sugar and very few calories.”
