Star Island Yacht Club & Marina Celebrates Father’s Day Weekend with 33rd Annual Shark Tournament

Mark your calendars! Star Island Yacht Club & Marina is kicking off the sport fishing season on Father’s Day Weekend with the 33rd Annual Shark Tournament, taking place from Thursday, June 13 to Saturday, June 15.

The full Shark Tournament schedule is as follows:

Cash prizes will also be awarded for Heaviest Shark of the Day, the top three Heaviest Makos, the top three Heaviest Blues, and the top three Heaviest Other Species.

The entry fee is $1,250.00 per boat. Those who register before April 15 will be entered into a raffle for a $500 certificate to the Star Island Ship’s Store.

As Star Island and nearby marinas often fill up quickly for the holiday weekend, anglers are encouraged to reserve dockage early. Dockage for the tournament is a three-night minimum stay, and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Thousands of spectators flock to the Shark Tournament each year. If you want to check out the action, it is strongly recommended that you make hotel reservations as soon as possible. These rooms will fill up fast!

For anglers who would like to get in on the competition but do not own a boat, the Star Island Yacht Club Charter Boat is home to Montauk’s finest and most accomplished Charter Captains. Each of Star Island’s charter boats can accommodate up to six anglers for one or both days of the tournament.

All anglers can contribute to the study of the shark by tagging and releasing sharks that do not meet strict weight requirements. Last year, over 250 sharks were released back to the ocean.

For more information on Star Island Yacht Club & Marina, or to register for any of these tournaments, call (631) 668-5052, or visit www.starislandyc.com.

Celebrate a Birthday with Fan-Favorite Zoo Animals, in the Warmth of Your Own Home!

[MANORVILLE, NEW YORK] –– For those with winter birthdays, planning a fun birthday party can be tough with the cold winds and harsh weather. But no need to worry! The Long Island Game Farm – Wildlife Park and Children’s Zoo can bring the zoo (and the party) to you!

The farm’s mobile zoo is a great gift for your little animal lover’s birthday. What better gift is there than a close encounter with animals that cannot be found in your backyard? The zoo features animals such as Suzie the Wallaby, Gabriella the Giant Flemish Rabbit, Speedy the Sulcata Tortoise and more! For safety reasons, the selected animals may be replaced or changed as their needs require.

The zoo can be set up at any type of venue, indoors or outdoors, including homes, schools, libraries and religious centers. The indoor setup is assembled on a tarp, which the Game Farm will set up and clear at the end. For outdoor parties, the petting zoo can be set up under a tent.

How does the zoo work? The Mobile Petting Zoo includes a 12-by-12-foot pen, where the animals will be set up. A smaller pen with a bench will also be constructed, as a space where the kids will get a special one-on-one animal encounter. The children may have a choice to meet one or more of the animals mentioned above, depending on group size and allowance of time.

“We are super-excited to be bringing the mobile zoo back this year!” says Melinda Novak, Vice President/Co-Owner, Long Island Game Farm. “This is the perfect activity for a winter birthday party – the kids love having one-on-one time with the animals!”

Pricing for the Mobile Zoo starts at $425 an hour, depending on the parties’ needs. Travel fees will apply, depending on traffic and distance.

Close Encounters at the Long Island Game Farm

CAPTION: Photo by Anthony Graziano picturing Marybeth Zilnicki crouching down next to a wallaby inside an enclosure.

[MANORVILLE, NEW YORK] –– On October 6, 2018, the Long Island Photo Gallery (LIPG) teamed up with the Long Island Game Farm – Wildlife Park and Children’s Zoo (LIGF) for a charity photoshoot in order to raise funds to sponsor a Game Farm enclosure.

At the event led by photographer Anthony Graziano, a select group of local photographers came down to the zoo and took exclusive close-up pictures of the animals such as the wallabies, giraffes, lemurs, and more. The unique photos were taken without the obstructing background of farm visitors or cages, which is a rare occurrence for the bustling zoo.

All photographers were required to donate $95 to the Game Farm if they were members of the LIPG and $110 if they were not members. Along with their donations, the photographers were given a private tour of the grounds and a small plate buffet. All proceeds went towards the renovation of an older animal enclosure. So far, $650 has been raised by the LIPG towards the enclosure sponsorship.

In 2019, Long Island Game Farm will be celebrating its 50th anniversary as Long Island’s largest combined children’s zoo and wildlife park. Donations are accepted to help improve the lives of the animals and their surroundings.

For more information about sponsorship opportunities, please call 631-878-6644.

Don’t Pass Over Ben’s Catered Holiday Dinner

The Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers’ motto has long been that holidays should be a time to kick-back and relax with family, rather than spending long hours cooking and cleaning. Celebrate freedom, and the story of the exodus from Egypt, with the company’s famous Catered Holiday Dinner for 10, featuring mouthwatering gefilte fish, delicious matzo ball soup, fresh-cut coleslaw and more.

According to Jewish tradition, it is forbidden to eat leavened food products, such as bread, because, in their rush to escape from Egypt, the Jews were unable to wait for bread to rise. Instead, they ate matzo, a non-leavening cracker-like food, which has become synonymous with Jewish culture, and its holidays.

In recognition of this custom, Ben’s Complete Holiday Dinner for 10 features 12 matzo balls, along with 10 pieces of gefilte fish, one-quart of chopped liver, four quarts of chicken soup, and macaroons for dessert. The package, which costs $349.90, also includes a choice of three entrées — five roast chickens, a whole roast turkey or four pounds of sliced brisket —and two side dishes, such as broccoli almandine, sweet potato pudding and much more.

Ben’s Friends Preferred Patrons who purchase this complete Holiday Dinner by Sunday, March 25, 2018 will also receive four “Buy-One-Get-One-Free” on-app coupons; a total savings of over $100.

All seven locations are also offering “Holiday Dinner Extra Goodies,” which can be pre-ordered to ensure that every table is full. For those looking to bring a dish – whether it’s an appetizer, dessert, or another signature dish, Ben’s takeout counter has everything you need to complement a  holiday dinner.

In observance of the holiday, all Ben’s Kosher Deli locations will close at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 30, and will re-open Sunday, April 8 for normal business hours.

For more information regarding Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers, or its Catered Holiday Dinner for 10, visit www.bensdeli.net.
