be(Cause) Lifestyle Boutique Celebrates Grand Opening of its New Wading River Location

Retail Establishment Provides Job Opportunities for Individuals
with Special Needs

WADING RIVER, NEW YORK — On February 12, Stacey Wohl, Owner, be(Cause) Lifestyle Boutique, was joined by local elected officials and local business and educations representatives for the grand opening of its new location in Wading River, located at 6278 Route 25A, Building A, #2. Those in attendance took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony and met with be(Cause) volunteers and staff during a tour of the establishment.

be(Cause) features a vast array of stylish clothing, jewelry from local artisans, soaps and assorted home goods, including the Nest line of fragrance candles, as well as coffee, baked goods and gift baskets filled with hand-crafted food items. Ms. Wohl came up with the idea for the store after she decided to revisit her roots in the fashion industry, where she worked as a showroom salesperson, fit model and designer after graduating college. In 2012, she began a wholesale coffee business, Our Coffee with a Cause, in which she trained her two children, Brittney and Logan — both of whom have special needs — and those with developmental disabilities in various aspects of the business.

In 2016, she opened Cause Café in Northport, a full-service restaurant serving breakfast and lunch, with half of its employees comprised of those with developmental disabilities. Two years later, Ms. Wohl opened be(Cause) Lifestyle Boutique, where she continues to offer job opportunities to special-needs individuals. In addition, she works with Developmental Disabilities Institute, which sends a handful of young people with special needs to the store each week in order to receive job training skills.

“We are proud to open be(Cause) Lifestyle Boutique at our new location in Wading River,” Ms. Wohl said. “Our store provides a unique line of clothing, home accessories and expertly made baked goods. In addition, we provide job opportunities to older children and young adults with autism and special needs. This allows them to not only become gainfully employed, but to lead productive lives.”

be(Cause) Lifestyle Boutique Relocates to Wading River

Store Supports Job Opportunities for Young Adults Who Have Special Needs

WADING RIVER, NEW YORK — be(Cause) Lifestyle Boutique, a store that supports job opportunities for young adults with developmental disabilities, has announced that it has moved its store from East Northport to Wading River. The new address is 6278 Route 25A, Building A, #2.

The boutique features a vast array of stylish clothing, jewelry from local artisans, soaps and assorted home goods, including the Nest line of fragrance candles. In addition to selling clothing, be(Cause) Lifestyle Boutique also serves coffee, baked goods and gift baskets filled with hand-crafted food items. In celebration of the new store, shoppers will receive 25% off all purchases this month as part of its grand opening and holiday sale through December 31.

The idea for the store came to its owner, Stacey Wohl, who decided to revisit her roots in the fashion industry. She worked in the garment industry as a showroom salesperson, fit model and designer after graduating college. In 2012, she began a wholesale coffee business, Our Coffee with a Cause, in which she trained her two children, Brittney and Logan — both of whom have special needs — and other special-needs individuals in various aspects of the business.

In 2016, she opened Cause Café in Northport, a full-service restaurant serving breakfast and lunch, with half of its employees comprised of those with developmental disabilities. “I opened Cause Café to employ my children and others with autism and train them in different aspects of the business,” Ms. Wohl said. “My idea was to make it a franchise and open more locations across the country.”

However, those plans never came to fruition. While vacationing on a cruise ship with her parents and her daughter, her father suffered a heart attack and died. Ms. Wohl returned home and needed to deal with the affairs regarding her mother’s house and the estate, leaving her no time to operate the restaurant. “I closed down Cause Café to retool my idea of employing special-needs young adults, but make it easier for them,” Ms. Wohl said.

In 2018, Ms. Wohl opened be(Cause) Lifestyle Boutique, a clothing store featuring a coffee bar. “I came up with this concept because of my background in the garment center and there was space to open a mini-Cause Café,” she said.

But, three weeks after Ms. Wohl opened the store, her mother committed suicide. She continued to operate the business while taking care of her late parents’ estate, including selling their house, and having to deal with the loss of her mother.

In late 2019, Ms. Wohl relocated be(Cause) to Wading River, with the intention of keeping the Cause Café concept in the store. The new location will allow Ms. Wohl to be closer to Brittney, who was recently accepted to a day program in Aquebogue; meanwhile, Logan will work at the store when he finishes the school year at a boarding school for autistic children in upstate New York. “When I found this location, I wanted to combine the two concepts of a store and a coffee bar like I did at East Northport,” she said. “At be(Cause)’s new location, it will continue to be supported by volunteers with special needs. My intention is to offer volunteer opportunities to more young adults with special needs at the store, where they can learn real-life work skills in the retail industry.”

Ben’s Donates $2,400 to The INN

Money Raised from Sales during National Deli Month

On September 25, Ronnie Dragoon (center), Founder-Owner, Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers, presented a check to Jean Kelly (left), Executive Director/CEO, and Rob Kammerer (right), Board Member, The INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network), in the amount of $2,400 at the Mary Brennan INN soup kitchen in Hempstead.

The money was raised from a promotion during National Deli Month. From August 1-31, Ben’s offered its customers a prix fixe menu special, with a portion of the sales proceeds going to benefit the Mary Brennan INN.

The INN is a not-for-profit, volunteer-based organization that provides a broad variety of essential services to assist those facing hunger, homelessness and extreme poverty. Ben’s has a special connection to The INN as Ben’s Founder-Owner, Ronnie Dragoon, has been a member of its Board of Directors for almost 20 years.

“We are proud to be longtime supporters of The INN,” Mr. Dragoon said. “We want to recognize the organization’s work that they do in helping the less fortunate who seek to become self-sufficient.”

“We wish to thank Ben’s for its generous donation,” Ms. Kelly said. “We also want to give thanks to the Ben’s customers who patronized the restaurant during National Deli Month. By ordering from the prix fixe menu, they helped raise money for our organization which will be used to help those in need on Long Island.”

Ben’s Celebrates National Delicatessen Month

In celebration of National Delicatessen Month, Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers will offer a two-course, prix fixe menu with traditional Jewish fare during the month of August. The Deli Lover’s Favorite special will feature Matzoh Ball Soup, Hot Open Pastrami and Corned Beef Combo, served with stuffed derma (kishke) and fresh-cut French fries. Accompanied by our fresh-cut Cole Slaw and Barrel Cured Pickles, all for the low price of $25.99! Extra-lean meats are available for an additional $1.00.

Delicatessen owners across the country have banded together to create National Delicatessen Month to celebrate the importance of delicatessens to the Jewish community, as well as raise awareness of the fact that they are rapidly disappearing. For the entire month of August, delicatessens are encouraged to create three-course, prix fixe menus that showcase some of their beloved traditional deli dishes. A portion of each of these meals sold will go towards a charity of the delicatessen’s choice.

For this special occasion, Ben’s has chosen to donate 15% of the proceeds from their prix fixe menu to the Interfaith Nutrition Network (the “INN”), a not-for-profit, volunteer-based organization that provides a broad variety of essential services to assist those facing hunger, homelessness and extreme poverty.
