(Greenvale, NewYork) — Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers is hosting its 12th Annual Charitable Fundraiser “The Olde Time New York Deli Experience.” The event, which supports The Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN), is taking place on Monday, October 5 at 6 p.m. at Ben’s of Greenvale in Wheatley Plaza.
Founded in 1983 as a means of serving Long Island’s homeless and hungry, The INN has provided over 11 million meals to those in need. The group’s mission is simple: “Neighbors helping neighbors,” a sentiment that Ben’s Deli owner and founder Ronnie Dragoon echoes. As with previous years, Mr. Dragoon, an INN board member, will once again serve as the official pastrami slicer at the event.
Mr. Dragoon’s co-board member Rob Kammerer, a physics professor at Vaughn College, is a major helper for this year’s fundraiser, which will honor journalist Lawrence Levy, executive dean and head of suburban studies at Hofstra University. Mr. Levy’s 35-year career in journalism has included coverage of six presidential campaigns. A former Newsday contributing writer and editor, Mr. Levy also has experience reporting on major local events.
“Lawrence is a big player in journalism and he’s always given a voice to minorities on Long Island,” says Mr. Dragoon. “This year, we’re recognizing his dedication to the members of the Jewish community, among others.”
