(Glen Cove, New York) – Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen and Caterers is holding a special showing of Deli Man, a funny and heartwarming film about the history of the American kosher deli, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 25. The screening is being held at the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County (HMTC), located at 100 Crescent Beach Road, Glen Cove, New York, to which the proceeds from the event will be presented.
Admission is $18 per person in advance, by contacting Cohen Media, and $20 per person at the door. All monies raised benefit HMTC’s support of Holocaust education outreach to schools and communities through Generation to Generation (2Gs). This organization, which is affiliated with Israel’s Yad Vashem museum — the first institution dedicated to the memory of the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust, conducted some of the first oral histories of Holocaust survivors and is instrumental in educational outreach in the greater Long Island area.
Deli Man follows an American Jewish community through the steps of immigration, assimilation and upward mobility for immigrants in the United States. Including commentary from delicatessen connoisseurs and comedy greats Jerry Stiller, Philip “Fyvush” Finkel, Alan Dershowitz, Freddie Klein, Dennis Howard and Larry King, the story of Deli Man is full of humor and charm. The film also holds a special meaning to the Ben’s Deli family as it features their very own Ronnie Dragoon, founder and owner of the restaurant chain.
Following the screening, Mr. Dragoon and Erik Greenberg Anjou, producer and director of the film, will host a question and answer session that focuses on the traditions of the Jewish-American deli. Mr. Anjou will also discuss what went into the making of the film, which is the is the third installment his trilogy on Jewish culture, the preceding films being A Cantor’s Tale and The Klezmatics – On Holy Ground.
