[Fort Salonga, New York] – Prominent members of the community, elected officials and staff celebrated the opening of Cause Café, located at 1014 Fort Salonga Road in Fort Salonga, New York during a grand opening event held Wednesday, April 27. Owned and operated by Stacey Wohl, Cause Café will officially open to the public on Saturday, May 7 for regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.

The breakfast and lunch location offers the company’s flagship Our Coffee with a Cause brand coffee, as well as organic breakfast foods, sandwiches, salads, juices and smoothies. The storefront houses a warehouse-like area, for processing, packaging and shipping of Our Coffee with a Cause products and additionally offers group activities, such as high tea, yoga classes and paint nights.

As part of its community service efforts, Cause Café integrates individuals with cognitive delays alongside their typically developing peers. The company also offers private vocational training to developmentally delayed persons for a small fee outside of regular business hours, with the objective being to provide them with the valuable job experience necessary to finding gainful employment.

“We are very excited to officially open our very first Cause Café location,” says Ms. Wohl. “My ultimate goal is to turn this into a franchise for other parents of individuals with special needs to help create valuable work environments for their children and other local persons living with cognitive impairments. I am eager to be part of the Fort Salonga business district.”

Ms. Wohl founded Our Coffee with a Cause in 2012 in response to the growing concern for individuals with special needs on Long Island who are aging out of schools looking to find job opportunities and a learning environment to acquire real-life skills. Although 53 million adults in the United States are living with a disability, as many as 70 percent of this working-age population are currently unemployed.

Cause Café employs several persons with special-needs, who work with job coaches across both arms of the business, including counter persons, baristas and cleaning staff, as well as ‘warehouse’ employees, who will help process, package and ship Our Coffee with a Cause products. A portion of the business proceeds benefit Our Own Place, a non-profit organization that Ms. Wohl founded to provide unique opportunities to special-needs children and their single parents. The mission of the organization is to support businesses and other organizations that provide valuable resources to children and adults with cognitive disabilities.
